Uses of Spring Loaded Dowel Pin

Spring Loaded Dowel Pin  are industrial fasteners used to join two or more items together. They are short cylindrical rods made of various materials, including wood, metal, and plastic. Dowel pins may be tapered, slotted, grooved, or otherwise altered to alter their mechanical properties. They are usually available in imperial or metric units.

Locating pin operation
Locating pins have no moving or driving parts. The mechanical properties of dowels stem from their high coefficient of friction, and any adhesive that may be used when inserting dowels into press-fit pre-drilled holes. They must be rigid in use so that they are able to hold the assembled components in alignment without further hardware fastening. For a secure fit, the hole should be exactly the same size or slightly smaller than the diameter of the dowel. Dowels typically determine the working load and measure the breaking strength when double shear occurs.

For aesthetic applications where hardware must be touched or visible, dowels can appear uniform in their assembly-a distinct advantage over other fasteners. For this reason, dowels are often used in furniture. They can also be used as hinges and simple axes.
