Metal Dowel Pin

Metal dowel pins, also called metal dowels, are mostly used as precise locating devices in industrial machinery. Steel dowel pins are machined to tight tolerances to match the corresponding holes, which are typically reamed. 

A dowel pin may have a smaller diameter than its hole so that it freely slips in or a larger diameter so that it must be pressed into its hole. The most common tolerance range is m6 for interference fit and h6 for slip fit.
